What can plastic chain be used for?

It might be easier to ask what plastic chain can’t be used for.

Perfect for creating a visual barrier, this type of chain is great for use as a plastic chain fence to keep people on the right path, organise queues, prevent parking on the grass verge, or add a finishing touch to the perimeters of your garden.

Crafted from polyethylene, plastic chain is highly adaptable, lightweight, and durable, suitable for both outdoor and indoor use, and for domestic or industrial applications. It’s also resistant to rust, flexible and easy to replace if a link breaks.

What’s more, thanks to the wide range of colours we have available – including orange, yellow, green, brown, and blue – your plastic chain fence doesn’t have to be boring!

Help & Advice

Can a plastic chain be repaired?

Yes!
Waterproof and resistant to corrosion, plastic chain is designed to be strong, durable and long-lasting, but it’s not indestructible. Which is why it’s good to know that it’s also easy to repair.

We stock 6mm plastic chain links in black and white – perfect for making running repairs to your plastic chain barrier and replacing any broken or damaged links.

Supplied individually, you only need to purchase exactly the amount required, meaning you can prolong the life and cost-effectiveness of your chain whilst still keeping costs down.

And don’t forget, these convenient links can also be used to join existing chain fences together to increase length and capabilities.

How strong are plastic chains?

Plastic chains have outstanding properties, making them strong visual barriers as opposed to load-bearing or security. Despite this, they’re strong enough to withstand everyday knocks and weather conditions.

For a chain that’s suitable for load-bearing, steel chain or stainless steel chain may be a more appropriate alternative.

Which plastic chain should I choose?

Here at RopesDirect, we offer two thicknesses of plastic chains, with applications depending on load and use.

6mm

A 6mm plastic chain is excellent for lightweight, indoor use for strength, visibility, and manageability, like museum galleries, exhibition stands, and safety barriers.

8mm

Thanks to their added thickness, 8mm chains are ideal for heavy-duty outdoor applications, such as car parks, construction zones, health & safety zones, and garden perimeters.
