Flax twine is made from the organic fibres of the flax plant (Linum usitatissimum).
Also known as the linseed or common flax plant, this has been cultivated for thousands of years for the versatility of its fibres. These are first extracted from the stem of the plant and then spun together to create a 1-3mm twine with various beneficial properties. For example, it’s:
As flax twine is 100% natural, it has a traditional ‘mid brown’ colour.
All products in our collection are also ‘polished’ – which means they’ve undergone a finishing process to enhance their appearance and give them a smooth soft-to-touch texture.
Thinner flax twines can be used as whipping twines – to bind together and secure rope.
Our collection features three sizes, each designed for whipping ropes of different diameters. Fine flax twine is ideal for small ropes measuring up to 12mm. Medium flax twine is suitable for 14-32mm ropes, whilst heavy flax twine can be used for large ropes of 36mm or more. We also stock synthetic whipping twines here.
Polished flax twines are a great choice for craft projects, DIY jobs, and parcel tying.
Tarred flax twine is particularly popular for use in the garden – commonly chosen for tying climbing plants or where weather proofing is an advantage. It’s also claimed to deter rodents. As such, it’s often purchased by home gardeners, farmers and florists.
Sourced from a leading UK supplier, all of our flax twines are premium quality yet affordably priced – starting from £5.58 for a 250gm ball and £10.80 for a 500gm ball (Sep 2024).
