Hard Eye Splice

A hard splice is achieved by looping the rope back on itself, inserting a galvanised metal or nylon thimble and then interweaving the rope strands to make a secure join. The thimble acts as a reinforcement to the splice and will help to prevent wear if a rope is run through it.

Hard eye splices are usually used in industrial and marine settings, for example when another rope is running through the eye and creating friction. For domestic and garden use, a soft eye splice may be more suitable.

Our craftsmen are able to splice all of our 3 or 4 strand fibre ropes as standard. Please contact us regarding splices in our 12-strand HMPE rope. We do not currently offer splicing with our braided or 8-plait ropes.

The cost of a splice takes into account the extra rope required. For example, if you order a 4m length with a splice on one end, we use just over 4m of rope to allow us to splice a loop but the end product remains 4m.
