All our Bungee / Shock / Elastic cords have a multi-strand rubber core:

Marine-Grade Polyester (black or white/fleck: 3mm-16mm): Our toughest cord. The polyester jacket provides superior UV protection, maximum wear resistance, and a 100% waterproof finish.
High-Performance Polypropylene (other colours: 2.5mm-6mm): An excellent, general-purpose bungee cord. Lightweight and moisture-resistant with good UV stability.

Specialist Ties & Fittings We also stock a wide range of 5mm ball and loop ties - ideal for marquees, trailers, and sails – plus 4mm/5mm sail ties for rigging.

Our standard range has a multi-strand rubber inner and a high-performance polypropylene outer which withstands UV, wear and moisture. These come in 12 colours and diameters from 2.5m-6mm.
Our marine-grade cords, in black and white/fleck, have a premium, waterproof polyester outer which provides greater UV and wear protection. They range from 3-16mm.

We also stock a wide range of 5mm ball and loop ties - ideal for marquees, trailers, and sails – plus 4mm/5mm sail ties for rigging.

All of our Bungee / Shock Cords are capable of 100% elongation (stretches to double their original length). However we recommend a
"Sweet Spot" stretch of 25%–30% for maximum lifespan and a safe working limit of 50% stretch.

Waterproof

Our Polyester/rubber bungee cords are particularly suited to marine use as they are completely waterproof. Neither the rubber core nor the braided sheath will absorb water or be damaged by water. Ideal for use outdoors and in boating, canoeing, kayaking and other marine applications. Our Polypropylene/rubber bungee cords resist water and moisture too and are suitable for outside use.

What is a bungee cord?

In simple terms, bungee cord is an elasticated cord, typically covered in a braided polyester sheath, used to secure items or tie down belongings.

With built-in stretch, it’s ideal for holding items in place and is frequently used for strapping items onto roof racks, sailboats and kayaks, caravans and tents, and for keeping garden furniture in place.

Heard a few other names mentioned? Don’t let matters be confused. Essentially bungee cord, bungie cord, shock cord, and elastic cord are all just different terms for the same thing.

How stretchy is bungee cord?

Bungee cord is inherently stretchy – that’s what makes it so useful. But whilst it’s typically capable of stretching to almost double its cut length, this isn’t recommended. Repeated overstretching will impact both the safety and longevity of the cord. We recommend somewhere between 25 and 50% of its at-rest length.
