You can use our rope to support garden plants in lots of different ways. We love this really clever rope tripod made by our customer Graham, in Hampshire. He kindly sent us the photo - quite understandably he was pleased with how his DIY rose support turned out! He saw something similar and had a go himself. This is the RopesDirect spirit - we are great DIYers and have-a-goers!. Graham used our 20mm synthetic sisal rope for the ornamental top because it will last for a long time and keep its appearance. The rope for the frame was thinner, 8mm natural "superior" sisal. The advantage here is that when it degrades, as any natural product should, the natural rope fibres will rot safely into the soil. In time the rope can be cheaply replaced. Our thanks to Graham for sharing - feel free to build one yourself!
Why not have a go yourself!
Other outdoor rope for plant support might be synthetic hemp, jute or manila - it is very much your personal choice. Think about whether you want synthetic rope, which is made from materials such as polyester, and which will be more weather resistant / rot-proof for garden use, or natural rope which will be more eco-friendly. And think about what colour and thickness will look best in your setting. There are plenty of pointers in this blog which we wrote a little while back:
www.ropesdirect.co.uk/blog/manila-rope-a-rosy-option-for-your-rose-swag/
The article focuses on making rose swags, which are another popular plant support for gardens. But it also sets out other options to consider, not just Manilla. So happy gardening and DIY plant support making! Do please send us photos of the finished articles so we can share them with the wider world and continue to inspire other gardeners to make the best use of rope outside!
