Theatre that uses theatre ropes

Stock up on theatre ropes for your grand re-opening

Hands up if you’ve missed the theatre?

Yes, us too.

It’s been over a year since they first closed their doors due to the pandemic. But finally, there’s light at the end of the tunnel. In line with the Government’s roadmap, theatres should be allowed to reopen as part of step three – which is provisionally confirmed to take place from 17th May.

Things are likely to be a bit different. Capacity is limited to 1000 people per show and social distancing, mask-wearing and one-way systems will all be required. But some shows do plan to re-start as soon as they can, including ‘Death Drop’ at Garrick Theatre on the 19th and ‘Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’ on the 20th. And lots more are due to re-launch late summer or early autumn.

It’s fair to say, we’re excited, and we’d love to play our part.

Here at RopesDirect, we stock a diverse range of theatre ropes and we’ve supplied a number of West End productions in the past, including Disney’s Lion King the Musical. If you’re preparing for your grand reopening and you need some new, high-quality ropes – perhaps for set building, theatre rigging, or crowd control – be sure to take a look through our full online collection.

All of our theatre ropes are priced competitively and can be delivered the next working day. Which means, there’s plenty of time to place your order and get ready for opening night.

Costumes made using rope from RopesDirect

Natural ropes

As part of our natural product range, we sell cotton, sisal and flax hemp ropes in a range of diameters – both by the metre and in large reels and coils. These are all incredibly soft and easy to use, and are a fantastic option for set and costume building. In fact, our natural ropes have previously been used by the master theatrical and film costume maker, Charles Hanrahan.

We also stock soft, pre-dyed polycotton rope, in a range of non-reflective colours to complement any stage set. As well as a selection of flexible and colourful magician’s ropes, that are perfect for use as props.

Theatre rigging ropes

Flax hemp is an excellent choice for a fly system or theatre rigging.

Flax itself is recognised as one of the strongest natural fibres on the planet, offering superior strength and durability. And despite its soft texture and traditional appearance, it can withstand frequent handling and high levels of friction – making it perfect for eight performances per week.

We have one of the largest online collections of flax hemp for you to choose from, including 6-36mm ropes – which can be bought by the metre, on reels up to 220m long, and in bulk 220m coils.

Barrier ropes

With social distancing rules still in place, crowd control is more important than ever. And we have the ideal barrier ropes to direct people through your one-way system, indicate where to queue and ensure they stay 2m apart. These are spun polyester ropes; yet they have an elegant, traditional appearance and come in a range of diameters and colours to match the aesthetic of the theatre.

Again, they can be bought by the metre or on large cardboard reels, and paired with a range of our brass rope fittings – including brackets, end-cups, hooks, trigger hooks, cap ends and more.

Break a leg!

If you’re planning to re-launch a theatre play or musical later this month, we wish you the best of luck. It’s been a difficult time for the arts industry and we’ll be glad to see our favourite shows back on stage.

For more information on the theatre ropes available in our store – or advice on the best type of rope for your needs – take a look at our ‘Online RopeFinder’. This will help to point you in the right direction. And if you do happen to use our ropes in your production, please take some photos and let us know. We’d love to see them in action and we’ll be sure to post your pics on our social media pages.
