Feeling energised for a new rope project this spring? Then keep reading as we share some of our favourite ideas…

Top 10 spring DIY rope projects

1.     Start outside

After hibernating inside for months, the pull to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air is always strong at this time of year. So don’t fight the urge – start outside!

March is the ideal time to tidy up the garden and prep borders ready for the growing season ahead.

Take the time now to put plant supports in place – we have a great selection of ropes ideal for training plants and keeping things organised. Or why not challenge yourself to create that rose swag you’ve always fancied? Manila rope is perfect for this.

Also on the spring outdoor hit list, should be sprucing up any decking or seating areas. Why not give yours a new look and feel for 2025 with rope borders?

2.     Let spring in with curtain tiebacks

Once the garden is looking good, you’ll be keen to draw back those curtains to enjoy the view and let the sunshine in.

Virtually any rope will work as a decorative curtain tieback, the choice is purely down to the aesthetic you want to achieve. You could go rustic with the natural look of synthetic hemp rope, manila rope or jute, or opt for a more polished, colourful finish with polysilk barrier rope. Use as it is, in multiple trailing lengths or twist into an elegant plait.

Practical and stylish. Sold by the metre and with a range of end hooks and eye plates available, the only hard part will be deciding which rope to go for.

3.     Blooming marvellous vases

Who doesn’t love a spring bloom? The vibrant colours of daffodils, tulips and crocuses are one of spring’s simple pleasures, and having the perfect vase to display them is the icing on the cake – crafting your own is even better.

If you’ve got an old vase you no longer like (or even a plastic bottle, glass jar or tin can), give it a new lease of life by wrapping it in rope.

There are tons of ‘how to’ videos available online for this kind of thing, but provided you’ve got good quality rope, a glue gun and wind your chosen rope round from the bottom up, you can’t go wrong!

4.     Perfect plant hangers

Nothing breathes new life into the home quite like a new plant and one of our favourite home décor rope projects is crafting macramé hanging baskets.

Not only are they a great way to display your favourite plants, they’re also deceptively easy to make.

Stock up on some jute rope, check out our simple 4-step guide to make a rope hanger and start knotting. We guarantee you’ll love the results.

5.     Baskets of joy

Great for organising shelves and cupboards, and an attractive way to store your belongings, rope baskets are brilliant around the home and will be a welcome aid to any spring clean.

Alternatively, if you fancy creating baskets with a more fun purpose than keeping things tidy, how about crafting Easter baskets? Perfect for gifting – or collecting goodies on an egg hunt!

6.     Creative wall art

There’s so much scope to be creative here.

Design your own personalised sign with carefully coiled rope words or favourite phrases, knot a macrame creation, or if you’re not feeling quite that adventurous, how about using rope to make a simple Easter or spring-themed banner?

You can keep things easy or set yourself a challenge. Check out our colourful range of macrame ropes for inspiration.

7.     Savvy shelving

Looking for a really clever way to increase storage whilst giving your home a fresh new look? Then how about a rope shelf?

Easy to do, impressive and completely customisable, hang one shelf or a series for a fast and effective way to switch up the interior of any room.

8.     Swing into spring

Never mind Easter chocolate, if you want to be really popular with the kids (big and small!) then how about introducing a swing to your home?

Keep things traditional with a garden swing… or if you’re looking for more edgy interior design, you could hang a swing from an indoor beam.

Not only do we have everything you need within our Play is Fun range – including the rope, swing seat, rope adjusters and fixtures – but we also have handy ‘how to’ videos to help you along.

9.      Seasonal wreath

And for the final finishing touch this Spring, how about a seasonal rope wreath?

Every bit as easy as they are effective, this is your opportunity to really let your artistic side run free. Attach spring foliage, colourful ribbons, even decorative eggs for a beautifully bespoke wreath you can hang anywhere.
