How to create a lasso!

Ever watched a western on the television or been to a rodeo in real life and wondered how the cowboys tied their lassos so easily? They’re trained in the art of lasso tying, they speed after cattle, rope them, tie them and have them trussed up before you can catch your breath.

Think you could create a lasso?

Accept our help at Ropes Direct and this might not be as difficult as you think. Have a go at our lasso knotting guide, we’ve made it as simple as possible for you to follow step-by-step.
·         Step one – Get a rope ready, make sure it’s free from knots, in good condition and clean as well.
·         Step two – Form a loose overhand knot at the end of the rope, just form a loop and push the working end of the rope through.
·         Step three – Tie an overhand knot at the end of the rope to prevent the knot from slipping off, use this as the stopper. Push the end of the rope back through one side of the overhand knot, tighten it and pull the ‘stopper’ knot tight too, you should be left with a circle at the end of the rope.
·         Step four – Next, feed the other end of the line through the newly formed circle and a lasso appears in front of your eyes. Make it as small or as big as you like and you’ve just taken the first step to becoming a fully-fledged cowboy.
·         Step five (optional) – Run around the garden shouting ‘Yee-haw’ whilst trying to lasso the dog, the garden furniture or the rotary washing line. You’ve just created your first lasso so have a little fun and put your roping skills to the test, wear jeans, chaps, a checked shirt and a cowboy hat for the full-on effect.
