A soft splice is achieved using the Brummel technique to loop the rope back on itself and then interweaving the strands to create a secure join. This is the strongest way of introducing an eye into a 12-strand rope and will only reduce the strength by around 10% (a knot on the other hand will reduce it significantly).
The cost of a splice is for the labour alone and will use up to 60cm (for 12mm rope, less for thinner) so we suggest you add an extra metre to your length to allow for this. For example, if you want a 10m length with a soft eye in one end then order 11m of rope.
